Deirdre McArdle-Manning, Executive Director

Founder of the Winter Harbor Music Festival, Deirdre is the artistic director of the Alexander Buono International Flute Competition and Festival. Her 'Fall in Love with the Flute Again' seminar will take place June 2-10, 2012 at Chateau en Betchat in the French Pyrennees. Deirdre has performed to critical acclaim in solo recital at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall and Wigmore Hall at the South Bank Centre in London. This past season she appeared at Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City and presented a masterclass at the University of Central Florida. Deirdre has served on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, Bowdoin College and Long Island Conservatory. She is a member of the World Civic Orchestra, the Nova Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the 92nd St. Y.

Gena Raps, Co-Founder

Gena Raps has performed internationally and across the United States. Her recordings include solo and chamber music by Dvorak and Mozart with artists such as Artur Balsam and Carol Wincenc. In addition she has made two CD’s for children: Play Bach! and Mother Goose and More, narrated by Julie Andrews and Peter Schickele. Ms. Raps has taught at the Juilliard School and the Mannes College of Music and juried competitions at the Juilliard School and for the Fulbright Fellowship.

Daniel Paget, Co-Founder

Conductor and composer-arranger, Daniel Paget, is a professor emeritus of the City University of New York. He led the Westchester Chorale for twenty five years and conducted the Paget Chorale at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Mr. Paget also served as choral director at Manhattan School of Music and founded Columbia University's Barnard-Columbia Chorus. His performances of the Britten War Requiem, Bach's Mass in B minor and the Mozart, Brahms and Verdi Requiems have been highly praised. The premiere of his Romania!, written for flutist Carol Wincenc, “raised the audience to heaven” (The New York Times) and his One Hundred Roses was recorded by flutist Paula Robison and the Charleston Symphony.

Evangeline Benedetti, cellist
Alexander Technique instructor
Evangeline Benedetti, cellist in the New York Philharmonic since 1967, certified teacher of the Alexander Technique since 1991, combines her traditional musical training and experience with the principles of the Alexander Technique in her approach to playing and teaching. She has given master classes in her approach to musicians as far reaching as Japan, China and most importantly, to students in Pyongyang, North Korea as well as at the major conservatories, Juilliard, Manhattan, and Mannes Schools of Music. The Violoncello Society of New York also featured her. She is published in Directions, Vol.1 #8, an Alexander Technique magazine, an article entitled, “Playing in a Symphony”. Currently, she teaches privately in New York City and continues to perform.

Anatole Wieck, violinist
Well known to Maine audiences, Anatole Wieck was born in Latvia. He received his early musical training in Moscow and came to the United States in 1973 to study at the Juilliard School. His teachers included the iconic Ivan Galamian, Joseph and Lillian Fuchs and Paul Doktor. A Fulbright fellow, Dr. Wieck was awarded his Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate from Juilliard-a rare accomplishment. He has performed and taught extensively in the United States and Europe. He is currently the Chairman of the music department at the University of Maine and conducts the university orchestra.

Carol Wincenc, flutist

Considered one of the international stars, of the flute, Ms. Wincenc has appeared as soloist with major orchestras such as Chicago, London Symphony, and the BBC. She has premiered and recorded works written for her by many of today’s prominent composers such as Rouse's flute concerto and Henryk Gorecki's Concerto Cantata. Ms. Wincenc has recorded on the Musical Heritage, Decca, Nonesuch and Deutsche Grammophone labels. She is presently Professor of Flute at The Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she is a member of the Juilliard Woodwind Quintet.
